The glittering glamour and opulence of the Jazz Age has captivated audiences for years, a period of time which comes to life this month with the release of the highly anticipated The Great Gatsby film based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 literary classic. In celebration of the movie and the collection created for the film, Tiffany & Co. is now introducing the Ziegfeld Collection, based on archival designs from the 1920s and inspired by The Great Gatsby collection created for the film.
“The new Ziegfeld collection is born of America’s spirited Jazz Age and celebrates Tiffany’s legacy during that time period,” says Douglas Aitken, Tiffany & Co. Group Director. “The collection also reflects the Great Gatsby Collection, by Tiffany & Company, inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s film in collaboration with Catherine Martin.”
There are 14 pieces in The Ziegfeld Collection that consist of black onyx, freshwater pearls and sterling silver. Standout pieces include the Ziegfeld Pearl Tassel Necklace, a 33” long strand of freshwater pearls forming a tassel of pearls at the end and the Ziegfeld Daisy Pendant, a sterling silver pendant featuring a daisy motif and cushion-cut black onyx. The 24-inch sterling silver chain it suspends on is dotted with pearls and black onyx beads.
The daisy is a recurring motif in The Great Gatsby, symbolizing purity and Gatsby’s love for Daisy Buchanan. It is also a flower that has long been a part of Tiffany & Co.’s 175-year history. Other pieces like the Ziegfeld Collection Daisy Locket, an ornate sterling silver piece, also continue the use of the motif.
Men’s accessories in the collection are just as glamorous, and an opportunity to channel the grandeur and style of the era as portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio and a fabulous cast. The accessories boast a tuxedo-like quality making them a classic addition to any wardrobe. Ziegfeld Cufflinks made of black enamel and sterling silver capture the 1920s style and mirror the cufflinks Mr. DiCaprio wears on film. The Ziefeld Signet Ring, a black onyx ring set in sterling silver also makes quite the style statement.
Aside from gorgeous glittering diamonds, it is perhaps luminous, freshwater pearls for which 1920s jewelry design is most well-known, and Tiffany & Co. was sure to include several pearl pieces in the collection. The stone is also incorporated as an accent in many pieces, like the Ziegfeld Pearl and Onyx Ring which features a round-cut black onyx stone in the center surrounded by pearls and set in sterling silver. All in all, it is a collection that perfectly captures the posh and elegant style of 1920s fashion.
