There is more to Cartier than luxury jewelry. The Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art in Paris is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary with a show, “Vivid Memories: 30 Years of Stories,” which will be ongoing until September 21. The foundation has become a fundamental part of the Paris art scene within the past 30 years, and it takes an active role in promoting emerging artists. Alain Dominique Perrin, former Cartier International president, said in an interview that one policy that makes the Cartier Foundation different from many other luxury brand companies is they don’t allow the artists they commission to also design for their parent company. Perrin believes mixing art with business will dilute the purity of the artwork.
