Chaumet may be a centuries-old house, but the jeweler’s Liens ceramic pendant and ring duo proves experimentation is still in this jeweler’s blood. Launching in July 2013 at Paris Couture Week, the “Liens,” or “Connections,” series offers a dozen interpretations on the ‘x’ design. While the cross motif isn’t new to Chaumet, the use of black and white ceramic as primary medium is an unconventionally playful break from the silvers and golds of the rest of the collection. The brilliant-cut diamonds’ square, grain setting adds a postmodernist edge to the pieces, which, though glancingly plain, manifest a minimalist balance of modernity and elegance.
